In San Sebastián you will see that the favourite sport of the donostiarras is strolling around the city. A healthy and cheap way of keeping fit which will also prepare you for other things, allow you to find out about the natural beauty of the cit, its well-planned streets and parks, and its people.
Stroll through its welcoming streets to discover its architecture and interesting shops, visit the Centre, the Old Part and Gros, enjoy the typical pintxos (tapas) in prize-winning bars.
Walk along the seafront of the city from Zurriola beach past the Kursaal Congress Centre and Auditorium, cross the river and walk along the Paseo Nuevo to see the waves break against it, reach the 100-year-old but modern Aquarium overlooking the fishing port, visit the Ship Museum under Monte Urgull (worth a separate visit) and its impressive views over the city.
From the fishing port/marina, pass the Club Náutico (sailing club) and the magnificent building of the City Hall to stroll along the beaches of La Concha and Ondarreta, passing the Sea Water Spa of La Perla and the Palacio de Miramar.
At the end of the walk is the "Peine del Viento" (comb of the wind) sculpture by Eduardo Chillida.
You are now close to the foot of Mount Igueldo, where you can take a funicular to go up to the top and enjoy a wonderful view.
Almost the entire route is part of the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago, which enters San Sebastián at Mount Ulía from Pasajes, and continues from Mount Igueldo towards Orio.
If you want to see the city quickly, take the Tourist Bus, which will also take you to the 'KutxaEspacio' of Science and the open-air 'Chillida Leku' museum, or take a bicycle from the new municipal rental service.
Whatever you do, make sure you try our cuisine in one of the famous restaurants in the city and the surrounding area.
San Sebastián is a cit with many and varied activities: 'Tamborradas' (drum festivals) and the 'Semana Grande' festival in August, sea rowing races, Film and Jazz Festivals, Gastronomy congresses, Concerts, etc., and it is usually necessary to reserve accommodation in advance.
